I'm so excited to be sitting here writing a new post for all of you lovely people! It has been a while but I am back full of energy and positivity.Today I want to share a little personal story with all of you and a recipe that I'm sure you'll be all over!
Five years ago I was working at a horrible job to pay my rent and bills, I had a really hard time and felt stressed every day. I remember waking up in the morning and wanting to cry. Having this job meant I didn't have much time or energy left to do anything else, and I felt very empty and lost. In the meantime, because I had to eat out everyday, I was making some pretty bad food choices 5 days a week. I used to have 2 big coffees with lots of milk and croissants for breakfast, and Chinese food or similar for lunch. After some months I was diagnosed with a common autoimmune illness that, according to doctors, can only be cured through radioactive therapy or surgery (none of which I am interested in), which left me with one only option; to take pills every night for the rest of my life.
The reason why I am sharing this with you all is to give you a better understanding of why these few months have been very important for me. I have actively taken interest in my health and especially in nutrition as an alternative way to overcome my illness. I have spent most of my time studying and taking care of myself, and as a result I have made some dietary changes, which will be put into practice in all the recipes I share with you from now on in this blog. I have switched to a plant based / living foods diet, meaning I eat as many fresh fruits and vegetables as I possibly can and that I consume no processed foods or animal based products. I want to inspire you to make better choices that will help to improve every aspect of your life whether it is having more energy, better skin, better digestion, you name it. And to show you that healthy eating can be absolutely delicious too!
Today's recipe is the first juice of the brand new 'Juices' section in the blog! I love juicing because it is a fantastic way to fill your body with amazing nutrients. After juicing almost everyday for two months I am seeing some amazing results such as weight loss (especially cellulite, it is melting away!), more energy, better mood and clear skin, which means I wear a lot less make up these days! If you don't have a juicer but you have a blender, you can blend all the ingredients and put them through a muslin cloth to separate the pulp from the juice. If you can invest in a juicer, however, I would definitely recommend that you do!
This is an amazing juice not only to start your day with energy but it also helps with digestion and circulation, it is antibacterial, antiviral, and has many other amazing qualities!. LEMON GINGER TURMERIC JUICE - MY EVERY DAY STAPLE
|Makes 1 to 1,5 litres |
- 1 big lemon peeled
- 3 green apples
- 1 cucumber
- 1 piece of fresh ginger
- 1 piece of fresh turmeric
- A few pinches of cayenne pepper
- Optional: add celery, fresh mint, parsley, coriander, spinach or any other leafy greens you may have in hand.
- Make sure you peel the cucumber and apples if they are not organic.
STEP BY STEP
- Wash all of the ingredients with water
- Peel the lemon, ginger and turmeric (use a spoon to scrape the skin, makes it so much easier)
- Chop up all the ingredients and put them through the juicer.
- Add a cup of water to dilute for softer taste and serve.
